Who Am I
Ruben van Roon
Drummer | Teacher | Musician | Producer
Ruben van Roon is a versatile drummer, educator, musician, and producer with a career spanning over 35 years. He began his musical journey at age 14, studying jazz drums at the Conservatory of The Hague’s School of Young Talent under Clarence Becton and Eric Ineke.
After completing his studies, Ruben formed his own group, The Jazzmeteors, composing and producing two albums: Ugly Beauty and KIKKE. The Jazzmeteors also worked on side projects with jazz greats Roy Hargrove and Dave Liebman. Following this period, Ruben performed with Thijs van Leer from the legendary band Focus. In 1998, Ruben was honored as Jazz Musician of the Year by the largest Dutch newspaper.
Ruben played with Dutch jazz legend Hans Dulfer for 10 years, performing as DJ Kikke—a unique blend of live drumming and DJing. He continued performing as DJ Kikke with Candy Dulfer, touring extensively across Europe and playing on major stages and festivals. Under this pseudonym, Ruben produces numerous tracks that combine electronic and acoustic sounds, showcasing his innovative fusion of styles.
Ruben was the drummer in the live band of Kraak & Smaak and also performed as the live drummer with De Kraaien, with whom he co-produced the album Rok en Rol Safari.
With nearly 35 years of teaching experience, Ruben has taught at Drumschool Cleuver, Het Koorenhuis in The Hague, the Conservatory of Amsterdam, and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers in notable bands and the wider music industry.
Teaching Philosophy
”Throughout my nearly 35 years of teaching, I have always focused on connecting with my students in an empathetic and supportive way. I understand the mental struggles that come with being a musician—the challenges of discipline, self-doubt, and maintaining motivation. My approach goes beyond technique: I emphasize the importance of making music that breathes, encouraging gratitude and deep connection with fellow musicians. Together, we work on listening, taking initiative, improvisation, dynamics, and groove, all essential elements for authentic and expressive playing.”
Ruben van Roon continues to inspire and innovate as a musician, producer, and dedicated educator.

Angus Tyler Inspire – Choose Love
“As Angus Tyler Inspire, I am fully immersed in crafting my new album, Choose Love, where I channel all my creativity into songwriting, producing, and arranging. This project is a heartfelt exploration of love and musical expression, drawing deeply from my inspirations.”
The album’s soundscape is shaped by lush orchestral arrangements inspired by classical music, intertwined with the rich harmonies of Brazilian music. Influences from legends like Stevie Wonder and Miles Davis flow through the music, blending soul, jazz, and orchestral textures into a unique, captivating experience.
Choose Love is not just an album but a journey—a fusion of my diverse musical passions and a message of connection and positivity. With the guidance and collaboration of producer Ruben van Roon, this project is evolving into a true artistic statement.
